Gridiron gals prepare to go for another title

Fingernail polish and football helmets have been a winning combination for the Central Coast Heat--San Luis Obispo County's women's tackle football team and reigning two-time national champions.
Practice has just begun, and the season's kickoff in the Independent Women's Football League Sixxes is only weeks away.
While preparing to defend their title, the team--which consists of players ranging in age and responsibilities from 18-year-old college students to mothers in their mid- 30s--has been going through meat grinder workouts four times a week at various playing fields throughout the county. Read More

The Central Coast Heat met the Oakland Banshees yesterday for some real hard hitting football Bay Area style. While the Banshees put up a good fight they were no match for the 2006 Champions. New Year Brings Exciting Changes For Sixxes Teams

Austin TX -The Independent Women's Football League announced today that the league will move to a multi-tier system of competition in 2008.
Sixxes teams and fans will be the first to move into the new Tier 3 Sixxes Competition Group. This means a new standard spring schedule for 2007, where each IWFL Sixxes team will play a six game regular season. Teams will be separated into two divisions, Northwest and Southwest. The leaders will advance on to the 2007 IWFL Sixxes National Championship.
The game format will change from tournament style to standard single games. Games will be four ten minute quarters with a 15 minute half time.
Sixxes Tournaments will still be held during the summer months but they will no longer play a role in, or affect the regular Tier 3 team standings.
The 2007 IWFL Sixxes schedule will be released soon. For information on game venue, kick off times and tickets, check out the team pages. Read More
